It was quite the process and my first time refinishing furniture. Lots of good fun and with a few sanders I borrowed from a friend!
I scored the handles from IKEA on sale in the winter and knew I would be doing the some point in time so I stashed them away. Success! Then with the dresser I used the leftover white paint from the washroom reno so only had to purchase some sanding paper and stain! We still have lots of stain left so I might just end up doing another project at some point.
Here is the final product. I’m very satisfied!
Happy Monday (night)!
I have realized I’m an awesome project starter. Not finisher. I’m not sure if I get to overwhelmed or just tired of the same task or I hit a level of frustration and start thinking up another project that would be more fun. I always have a running list of DIYs I would like to accomplish or an even longer list of things that still need to be done around the house. I love the pretty picture but honestly sometimes I wish someone else could do all the work, not us.
My lists usually come with an unrealistic timeline that is usually 99.9% unattainable. Overtime sure, but not within the days/week I usually allot myself. I’ve always been that way. I love keeping busy, I am not good at sitting and doing nothing. When I ‘watch tv’ I am usually on the computer surfing the internet and reading blogs looking for more ideas or working on another DIY. So keeping busy YAH but keeping focused NAH.
I wish I was better able to finish projects and I didn’t become so…complacent?…yup complacent with what is left. A recent example – our bathroom. Everything EXCEPT the shower curtain I need to sew is complete…I just am not in a rush to do it but if I did then BAM one room could be fully off the checklist. BAH alright I really need to do it.
Prioritize. Maybe that is all I need to better learn. Overall in life I tend to be quite organized (however looking at the state of my house now you would never think it) and able to multi-task and prioritize. Something I have had to always do for work to meet my deadlines. But why can’t I roll that into my at home life?
Am I the only one out there? How do people push through something they are just so tired of looking at around their home to get the task fully complete? When you are trying to work through a whole house of renos how do you prioritize? At the end when you complete a project I know the feeling of pure satisfaction. But maybe I just want to do too much at once and need to focus my attention to one room at a time. That is after I finish unpacking all the boxes! sigh.
Who doesn’t love free and cheap stuff?! In our town there is a facebook group that runs kind of like a yard sale with ‘admins’ who keep the show going.
Today I lucked out on two things through the fb group…one this chair. Sure it’s basic but it was free and with a fresh coat of paint it will fit perfectly into our guest room. Happy? Totally.
Second are these beautiful white back painted glass tiles. My friend was looking for some for her house and when I stumbled upon these I thought they would be perfect. We picked up about 100 sq.ft. She is taking them home for her own use but I might buy some off her to put in our own kitchen…she doesn’t need all 100 sq.ft. so luckily I won’t be messing up her plans. We bought the tiles off a contractor (again through fb) for $8 a sq.ft. That’s less than half the retail cost! Sweet deal – totally!!
TGIF! On to the weekend projects + strawberry picking!!
I need to put a question out there to get some brutally honest answers. How long will it take us to take our carpeted master bedroom (with a plywood subfloor) and get some nice hardwood out of it?!I assume there is hardwood under there since the rest of the house appears to be that way, I don’t however know the condition of what is under the ply.
We are debating refinishing the hardwood (assuming it is a possibility) tied into the same project as painting/wallpapering.
An idea…not decided upon yet or a start date. Just curious what others have experienced! Thanks in advance!

I’m drinking Tazo ‘Zen’ tea and stuffing a chocolate/chocolate cupcake down my throat hoping it will help from having my head explode. [side note: my coworker misunderstood the term ‘motor boating’ and one day used it when referring to eating/enjoying a brownie – today I could also use that term…I pretty much ‘motor boated’ the cupcake while rage was boiling inside me]
Ahh yes, the female body and rancid hormones. Nothing my husband did today, probably tonight and tomorrow would I think is right…I am in a rancid mood. I always feel bad for him cause he honestly doesn’t do anything different than many other days…but low and behold I’m a raging maniac.
We need to fix the cold water line tonight…I’m not looking forward to it for my own fear of my looming rage.
— 4pm —
Over the afternoon I had a few phone calls from my husband wondering about what materials we needed for the washroom, explaining what he figured out/did/found, and another saying he thought he could finish it up. I didn’t exactly follow everything he was telling me but thought I would worry about it when I got home. See what else needed to be done…
The zen tea helped.

I pack it up to head home, not sure what else will need to be done…just wishing a magic fairy flew into the house though one of our busted screens (you know one of those little holes in the screen that needs to be replaced/patched) and fixed the cold water line.
I get outside, it’s starting to rain and I have my scooter…lovely. Luckily I wear glasses so the shards of water aren’t piercing my eyes like they are my face.— 5:30pm —
I’m home. Moose greets me. Everything is quiet. I can feel my anxiety level rising…and how bad I’m about to feel when I likely lose my cool – probably over nothing and most likely totally undeserved. I get a hug and wait a few min then ask “how did it go? is it all fixed”. “no not quite”.
I’m calm and cool, I can’t believe it. Probably just my hormones not at 100% peaking point…I’m fine. I ask what is left to be done and can’t quite figure it out myself given what the local store recommended to my husband to buy.

Wonderful friends of ours stop by with their three beautiful daughters. They girls are collecting bottles to building up some money and responsibility to buy their dream dollhouse. They are so sweet helping to load them in the jeep. The husband is VERY handy, he basically renovated the main floor of their house from a two car garage + storage to a beautiful living space + kitchen complete with a custom harvest table and bench.
While they were here I was visiting with the wife and the husband was in the washroom with R trying to figure out how to tackle it. Our friends are awesome. He is coming back tomorrow to help R hook up both the cold and hot water lines and fix our problem. Then we will have our washroom back. I’m so happy and thankful.

I’m finishing the post, so thankful for amazing friends and my rage has totally subsided (as I watch a little Master Chef with my husband).
Thank you – you know who you are. You are an amazing family.
And I can truly say “Happy Tuesday”!
Our replacement sink has finally arrived from IKEA! YAH!
So last night I decided to install it. All in all it went well…sort of. I managed to get the plumbing hooked up for the faucet, drain and overflow.
Then we did the water test…
And then we realized, drip drip drip…issues with the cold water line somewhere behind the wall and not accessible from the basement. To mitigate the problem we are going to attempt to pull the PVC line through the opening and feed another one back through.
Another project before we finish the washroom, as soon as we think we are done…we are not. haha Just another one for the books!
Who doesn’t love a weekend of deals?!
First highlight was a phone call on Friday letting me know our wallpaper was in store! YAH!
I picked up the four rolls on Saturday and to my pleasant surprise there was a 20th Anniversary sale on which = 20% off Benjamin Moore products. Awesome! I was informed that I could pre purchase paint that they would keep in store and I could just have it mixed as need be and pick it up. Since this would mean about $75 in savings if I pre purchased. Decided and done. We didn’t pick it up or mix it but we have it now for when we are ready!
Awesome deal #2. I went to Fabricland to get white fabric for our shower curtain (which I’m making with our existing black on black print fabric – as seen here). I figured while I was in the store I would check on black fabric for our Master Bedroom curtains/blinds, deal what I wanted was 30% off this weekend! Awesome savings, another $40 or so. Woot!
– Other stuff –
We got to the garden and pulled a ton of weeds which made a huge difference. We realized we had green onions growing in amongst the raspberry bushes and weeds. We grabbed some and tossed them in our dinner tonight, delish!
We were hoping to paint our front door this weekend but weather on Sunday did not permit such events. We did get our window sills all prepped so hopefully next weekend we can get on it!
Huge +++ Found out Friday that our sink from IKEA (which I mentioned previously how they have the worst customer service) SHOULD be here today or tomorrow, finally. Thank goodness. This week I will install it and then hang our shower curtain and DONE!
Can’t wait till the weekend to do more work! Happy Monday!
